New Year, New You!

Just as our social media presence should get an upgrade or refresh every so often, so should we. In life and business it is important to take note on how we are presenting ourselves to the world. We are "brand ambassadors", in a sense . We all represent something. Whether it is ourselves, our family, our company, or even our faith.

Overall I believe that the most important thing to decorate is our hearts and who we are within, but oftentimes it is difficult to truly feel different on the inside if we don't feel great on the outside. There's nothing like a new lipstick, or dress, to make us feel more confident.

Styling Your Life

This year I challenge you to make styling your wardrobe, look, and life, a priority. Take some time to look through magazines, Pinterest, and other social media for ideas. Collect looks that fit who you are now, in this moment in life. Doing this will provide you with fixed, tangible ideas on what to look for when out on your next shopping trip. Instead of wandering through isles aimlessly, choosing mismatched pieces that looked good alone, but don't create an outfit, you will have the ultimate plan.

Get an image in your mind of an outfit you would like to put together, head to toe. From the statement jewelery and scarf, to the belt, all the way down to the shoes. This will bring together a beautifully polished look.

Once you have an idea of what you are looking for, create a list and a game plan. What stores do you think best fit your style? Express? H&M? Michael Kors? Nordstrom? Plan a shopping trip within your budget and make it happen.

Head to Toe Beauty

While at the mall, boutique, or wherever you choose to go, make sure to stop by the fragrance and beauty counters. Find a good quality foundation in a shade that flatters your complexion and skin care needs. This is a must, as your face is your first impression. You may want to ask a beauty advisor for a free consultation and what products she would recommend. Having an expert help you can save you time and money in the long run.

Also, find a fragrance that truly defines you. One that you will want to linger behind you and that you will be remembered by.

Checklist:

-7 top-notch outfits - One for each day of the week
-A great quality foundation and any other makeup products needed
-Fragrance
-Handbag
-Accessories (scarves, belts, etc.)

Depending on your budget you may need to split the shopping trips up, or give consignment and resale boutiques a chance. I have found some pretty nice treasures and high end brands while thrifting. A smart girl knows to never, ever put herself in debt over material things. There are ways to spend less and feel great about shopping. Plus, I believe in quality over quantity. Having a few great pieces in your closet is much better than a cluttered mess of mediocre items that you never wear.

There are ways to add just a few little touches to freshen up your look, without breaking the bank. Eventually, you will have put together a fresh new wardrobe along with a new fragrance and makeup to give you that extra glow that will have people asking ‘Did you do something different?' And you may even want to go the extra mile and get a new hairstyle, cut, or color.  It’s up to you, whatever you wish to do to reinvent yourself and your look as you embark on this new year, and new and improved you!
